The Final Chapter: Weighing the Pros and Cons of Retiring from Writing

Change is not easy for most of us. When a change is inevitable, I like to explore my options. Next, I weigh the pros and cons, as I try to project the outcome for each scenario. Sounds reasonable, right?
As the end of 2025 was coming closer, it was time to reassess the pros and cons of keeping my business:
Pros: | Cons: |
I love the fact that I am privileged to be a part of a child's learning process. | No matter the day, time, or weather, I need to pack up books along with all the other items it takes to get me through the hours of a vendor event- whether indoors or outside. Think heavy stuff. |
I enjoy the interactions with people. I get to explain why I wrote the book, etc. with potential readers/buyers. | As I enter my mid-70's, I need to be more aware of what I am physically capable of. |
Self-publishing allows me to get a book out on my timeline. | Self-publishing has become increasingly expensive from every aspect. |
For the past 8 years+, I have been self-funding all my work. The past two years have had fewer sales each year, yet the cost of every aspect has already gone up with the expectation that it will happen even more.
I have decided on retirement and I am working to close my business. With that said, I am pursuing the best way to make that happen. I am asking each of you to be so kind as to let me know by emailing me at info@third-careerpress.com if you might be interested in purchasing any of the books I still have in-house. This inventory has some of each of the three books, as shown. I must hear from you as I move toward a closing. This will give me the time to gather the appropriate information, including payment, and to ship the book(s) to you. I will no longer take orders/payments on Amazon or Lulu. These are "print-on-demand" (POD) sites, which I will be closing shortly. All books will be sold at 25% discount through the email only. Any unsold inventory will be donated to reputable, local, child-focused organizations. Depending on the response, I may add a very limited number of "vendor markets" to sell off the remainder.
All in-house books will be sold at 25% discount through email.
I am truly grateful for your interest and support over these years.
I wish you and your children (and grandchildren) all good things in the future!
